A Late Summer Getaway
I have been in need of a change of scenery for a while so I called my good friend Shaun and packed up for a weekend in “the Bruce”. The weekend was everything I needed, hot dogs and s’mores on the bonfire, a cool brewery visit and lots of the great Ontario outdoors.
After a long, traffic-filled drive, I arrived in Kincardine for a bonfire with some friends and the requisite hot dogs, s’mores and beers.
Saturday morning we hit up the local breakfast joint before taking a hike on a few of Kincardine’s 28 KM of trails. Then it was off for a drive to Blyth to visit Cowbell Brewing Company for some sampling. On the way to Blyth we stopped at Pine River Cheese for supplies – you can never have too much cheese.
Cowbell Brewing Company is a relatively new player in the Ontario craft beer scene and they are the first carbon neutral brewery in North America. Their facility is absolutely stunning, rustic and modern all at the same time. While we did not eat in the restaurant, the menu looked really awesome – next visit. We each ordered a flight of 4 beers (so we could try all 8 beers on tap) and sat down to enjoy the scenery.
Sunday morning brought another hike and paddleboarding on Lake Huron – a first for me. I am happy to report that I did not fall off, but that might be due to the fact that I did not attempt to stand up – it was September in Kincardine – a bit chilly.
