My First Comaversary
Happy Comaversary to me!
And more importantly, a huge thank you to everyone for their support, encouragement and patience in 2018
It was exactly 1 year (and 2 days) ago today that I woke up from my week-long coma to the absolute joy of my family and friends.
I would like to say that a lot has changed in a year and when you catch a glimpse of my (never before public) hospital photos you will definitely agree. My hair is definitely much better now!
This photo is from my first day up and using a walker after being in a hospital bed for a week and a half. Shout out to the Physiotherapy Team at Lakeridge Health for all of their encouragement. To this day I am amazed at how quickly you lose your strength and how challenging it is to get it back.
To say that 2018 wasn’t the greatest year for me is a pretty large understatement. The first 3 weeks of 2018 were normal but in the last week of January my life took a decidedly wrong turn. Here’s the quick and dirty: a week-long coma, congestive heart failure, kidney failure and a 3-week hospital stay. I spent most of the year re-building my strength and trying to get back to being me. If you really want the whole story check out this blog post
2018 was my lowest mileage year since I began running and while 2019 may not be my highest mileage year, I am aiming high. Last year I barely ran at all, the few events I participated in I walked so it’s not hard to go up from there.
But I want to be very clear, 2018 was a really good year for me! I was constantly reminded of my amazing peeps who were there with me through it all. Sometimes that meant feeding me (literally or just bringing food to the hospital), listening to me, dog sitting for weeks on end, shovelling my driveway, or mall walking with all of those speedy seniors passing us. I also learned many new things, I enjoyed new experiences, and I met some new fabulous friends.
2019 and Beyond
